Additions:
(1) What will my name be? As an online environment, the wiki is browseable by anyone in the world. You may wish to protect the anonymity of your name or other aspects of your writing. Choosing an online name protects your privacy and is like trying on a mask and playing around with who you might become. Your online name can be anything (your instructor's is Eschaton, for instance). After choosing your name, create an account on Singularity, create your personal page with some information about yourself, and then create your blog (we discussed how to do this in class). If you choose an online identity other than your own name, please email the handle to the instructor.

Your contact information must include an email address. That said, it does not have to be your "official" PSU account, just one you are willing to check daily.

The proliferation of web technologies means that informationally speaking, our planet is a mesh. Information from Bangalore is instantly available in State College, and vice versa. Since you will be publishing your work to the web, you need to consider two rhetorical decisions before writing:

(1) What will my name be? As an online environment, the wiki is browseable by anyone in the world. You may wish to protect the anonymity of your name or other aspects of your writing. Choosing an online name protects your privacy and is like trying on a mask and playing around with who you might become. Your online name can be anything (your instructor's is Eschaton, for instance). After choosing your name, create an account on Singularity, create your personal page with some contact information and a distillation of your interests, and then create your blog (we discussed how to do this in class). Your contact information must include an email address. That said, it does not have to be your "official" PSU account, just one you are willing to check daily.

(2) Who will own my work, and how do I wish to license it? Since you will publish your work to the web, you need to think about your intellectual property. When you write, you produce materials as real (and as valuable) as any other "product." The Creative Commons offers online copyright and plenty of materials for figuring out how you want to license your work. Choose one. Your second assignment will be to compose a brief Analog:argument in support of your choice. Analog:Browse around the Creative Commons for ideas about which license fits your needs. Don't worry - you can always change your mind and your license.
