For years, the United States and its citizens have strived to gain equality among every person, and yet there is still an unfortunate bias existing within the country. Far too often have I observed suppression against certain individuals and, furthermore, has it gone unquestioned [Read this sentence allowed and tell me if it sounds correct to you]. Instances in the past concerning suppressed rights of African Americans and women have been drawn to the public’s attention, acted upon, and then corrected [I think a lot of people would disagree with this oversimplification]. Unfortunately, homosexuals still suffer a stigma concerning their equality and how they are viewed to [by] the general public. Openly declaring yourself as “gay” or “lesbian” is now an unintentional means of making yourself vulnerable to public reprimand. Apparent factors accounting for this include government impact, religion, influenced personal opinion, and various other outside sources opposing the homosexual group as a whole. Combining all of these factors only feeds the intolerable prejudice and injustice present in our modern world.
The term “homosexual” is gradually developing into more and more of a negative statement within our society. This very aspect of the problem has even degraded to the point where children use the label “gay” in referring to things in which they feel disapproval or see as unfavorable. The main cause of this asperity can be linked back to certain religious beliefs influencing personal views. Various popular religions in the United States, such as Protestant, Catholic, Lutheran, and Presbyterian, [these are kinds of Christianity (adjectives). If you want to refer to the Protestant faith as a noun, use the term "Protestantism"] reinforce the concept of mere heterosexuality, simply based on what they have interpreted from their reading of the bible. In any translation of the bible, it is stated that homosexuality is sinful and highly discouraged. Because the bible is the main source of guidance for these religions, it is then accepted without question within the churches and then preached to their followers. In many cases, translations are often misinterpreted and then transcribed incorrectly. Naturally, there stands a definite possibility that the authenticity of these articles have been altered or prove inaccurate from the original script [this sentence has some issues with parallelism]. Nonetheless, the churches consider it the absolute truth, and in turn, as [so] do their followers. This does nothing but encourage close-mindedness within the group, discouraging them to even question the subject. People need the chance to form their own opinion using personal logic and evaluation. [Okay, one flaw in this paragraph is that you spend too much time talking about the problem of blind faith and not enough about Biblical anti-homosexual sentiments. It's not wrong, but I think the structure of this paragraph detracts from the overall focus of the essay.]
Government plays another primary role in the bias against homosexuals. This mainly links back to religion and the dominant Christian beliefs of our government officials. Though religion hypothetically should be kept separate from the state, personal input is commonly involved in decisions and law-making. For this reason, one great current controversy within the country is that of legal gay marriage. President Bush, along with a majority of the Republican Party, is strictly against gay marriage. Their standpoint is that the union between two people of the same sex is not considered “marriage”, and such a thing can only exist in the bond between a man and a woman. They also believe that to legalize gay marriage would technically destroy the sanctity of matrimony and its significance to the American family value. Despite the opinion, this “sacred value” of marriage is currently being destroyed by an extremely high divorce rate (around fifty percent of married couples) and initiative due to pregnancy, along with others [this last bit is confusing]. A homosexual loves in the same manner and with the same heart as would a heterosexual[s] towards their partner. If two human beings of any sexual orientation love each other, they have the right to be together and deserve to legalize their commitment towards each other.
The greatest factor facing homosexuals is that their actions are conveyed as unnatural and wrong. This is more or less an opinion supported by insufficient truth and fact. It has been proven that genetics plays at least a slight role in sexual orientation, despite what is taught and believed. Still, this is not enough to sway some people. With stubbornness and persistence, they stick to their bias, continuing the problem’s growth into a serious issue. Like race or gender, this is an apparent suppression against those who are homosexual [I don't think you know what "supression" means, because you keep using it incorrectly]. Unfortunately, too many people take it lightly and fail to see its full potential as a problem. A recent article in the Daily Collegian displays this general complication. Within this letter to the editor, it comments, “...to state that homosexuals are suffering an injustice similar to other oppressed groups is an insult to people who have suffered real injustices as well as trivialization of what real injustice is.” Ironically, by saying that the oppression of homosexuality is not a true injustice, it furthermore enforces the greatness of [that] injustice going unseen. In order to fix a situation, it must first be fully identified as a problem. Until that realization occurs, gays and lesbians across the country will continue to be segregated for their natural emotions and behavior.
[Not a bad article, but there seems to be a general problem, throughout the essay. You continue to strive to use inventive vocabulary and complex sentence structure while lacking access to some of the more fundamental mechanics of grammar. In other words, your more complicated sentences are correct where simple stuff keeps going wrong. Also, I've noticed a tendency to misuse words in your paper. Be careful using words you aren't completely clear about when writing. That said, this is an interesting argument and a well-structured paper.]

Cynicism appears to take the upper hand when concerning homosexuality and all nature related to the subject. Regardless of dissenting opinion and all other negativity, people must learn to realize that gays and lesbians are only acting upon their individual disposition. The only difference between a homosexual and a heterosexual is merely their choice in gender. In realizing this and understanding that it is nothing more than love and attraction, perhaps those opposing the gay lifestyle will one day change their mind. Parallel to other groups who were once suppressed, gay rights will allegedly be enforced in the future. Once achieved, America will then be one step closer to obtaining complete equality among all people.
