Project Proposal
Homosexuals continue to be suppressed [oppressed is the word I think you want to be using here] in their rights and other social aspects, despite public recognition. Many people feel that there is no existing bias against gays and lesbians, while others simply view the entire lifestyle as immoral and wrong. Sadly, the term “homosexual” is gradually developing into more and more of a negative statement within our society, due to this. Openly declaring yourself as “gay” or “lesbian” is now an unintentional means of making yourself vulnerable to public reprimand and injustice. Religion and politics are the biggest contributors in feeding this problem and impacting social views. Considering that Christianity alone makes up most of America’s collective religion, it is only natural that a majority of United States views a negative aspect of homosexual culture [why? make sure to make this point]. In light of this situation, I propose that those against gays and lesbians be faced with facts until they gain a more positive understanding of the homosexual lifestyle.
Using statistics and persuasion, groups of individuals within society can be targeted and made aware of their negative views on sexuality. Information drawn from certain legitimate journal sources will be used regarding issues such as gay rights within government and religion, hereditary proof of homosexuality, the importance of gay marriage and parenthood, and the unsure placement of homosexuals in the university setting [I don't understand what you mean here]. In turn, the specific government and religious actions that these individuals draw their opinions from will be identified and noted for their injustice. Though personal opinion cannot be easily swayed, facing people with facts and statistics is able to serve a big impact in re-evaluating their points of view.
After providing a full array of information to those being persuaded, a positive image of homosexuality will then be shown. Once a completely pro-homosexual view is presented, these full-heterosexual supporters will be able to see the counter-view as a whole and link it to the bigger picture. Proof will be shown that homosexuality is inborn, rather than just a choice of identity. That unity between any two partners is a special bond between those two people, regardless of gender preference [This isn't a sentence, but an interesting point is made]. Gays and lesbians also care, learn, live, and grow just as straight people do, without any true difference. Organizations have even been form to help bond and overcome this epidemic they are facing [this sentence is confusing]. There is so much negativity towards homosexuality that possibly seeing a fully positive argument for once will allow opinions to slightly change and open minds.
In presenting an introductory part of this project through a visual documentary and then explaining the other half through a written paper, all aspects are able to be demonstrated in a way that is highly persuasive and understandable. The visual documentary will contain a collection of verbalized opinions from various people regarding their negative views on homosexuality [It's okay to say that you are going to make a movie in which you interview people: this language is a little overly complicated]. This documentary will then be counter-argued in explanation, theory, and solution through a detailed and informational essay. Within this essay, the formal proposal will be stated and verified in several supporting aspects. A combination of text and visual image will provide a more tangible perspective and will help to increase the amount of interest in the proposal among the audience. With this, an avid display of ideas can be formulated into a well-conceived and convincing proposition that may eventually result in equivalancy among all sexual orientations.
[I have to say that during your presentation, I was a little worried about your project, but I like the idea that you want to test and see if people are able to understand homosexuals as people in love, not as any kind of insidious social problem (or whatever). Yeah, run with it: I'm interested. Also, one thing, about the interviews: make sure you don't go in expecting certain results. You may find out that, in fact, people don't agree with your point and that's okay, you can start there in your analysis.]
