What is gambling? My definition is any action in which you wager money on a game of chance whether or not your own ability can change the outcome. Gambling used to be considered a sin, but today it has changed into something totally different. According to the wall street journal in 2004 at least, "54.1 million-26% of all gaming aged adults-hit the tables and slots" (Last). 81% of Americans in a recent survey also said gambling was an acceptable activity. This shows the increasing popularity in the area of gambling, so what is the problem. The problem is state governments still have strict licensing on what type of games can be played and where they are played. Legalizing more or all forms of gambling in areas where it is needed like horse tracks, police stations, fire stations, and v.f.w.'s, however, would increase state tax revenues, increase revenues and job growth of the local economies, all while providing a service of entertainment to the community.
