In 2000 juveniles committed a total of 41, 773 crimes. A number that has steadily been rising over the years, increasing by about 10,000 since 1991. While some crimes may be petty, such as DUI, the majority of the crimes are burglary, or worse, homicide. There must be a reason that the number of juvenile crimes are increasing. I believe this is because juveniles are not being properly punished for their crimes (Stahl).
