Through the use of these propositions, I believe that we can change the way society views beauty and how it affects other aspects of life. Women should not be told that to be happy one must be thin. Society today places too much pressure on women to conform to the images of actresses and models that they see in the media. Digital photography makes the models look the way they do and there is a reason that they do not look like this naturally. Being dangerously skinny is harmful to a woman’s health. If we do not eliminate the messages that the media sends, we will continue to see a rise in the number of eating disorders in America. The trend of the thinning media needs to be stopped before women find other steps to take to reach the unattainable goals that are set before them. By easing away from using tall, skinny models in the media, women will see that beauty comes in many forms and will stop turning to starvation as a way to feel better about themselves.
