Overall, I would have to say that this semester of English 15 has been a good one although if I were given the chance to retake it there would be a few things that I would change. Every week for the entire semester, we were told to blog on the wiki 5 times. The first few weeks, I did exactly that, but as we started having papers due, I forgot to do them. I put myself in the position to have to catch up on my blogging, doing 2 or 3 a day. I just didnt think about doing them while working on my papers. My advice would be to make a note somewhere or always write it down in your homework log to write a blog. Just do them each day of the week so you dont have to worry about them over the weekend. Another thing I would change is going to office hours before a paper was due. I did it once, and it was such a big help and I recieved a better grade on my paper. It is definatly worth taking the hour out of your busy day to conference with your teacher. One last thing that I would change would be to try and understand MLA format. It is a very important tool when coming to write papers and many teachers require it, especially for the 10 page final project. Well, that pretty much all my advice and I wish everyone taking English 15 next year the best of luck! If you just work hard and dont slack off youll be fine!

This weekend has been kind of lame because of finals but the one thing that has got me through it are my Friends episodes on DVD. After a long day of studying, I like to just sit and relax and soak everything in. It is my favorite show that I can always count on for enjoyment and a good laugh. I have 3 DVD's in my collection. They are the "best of" seasons one, two, and three. But I think that every episode fits under the category of the best! Right now as I write this it is the episode of Ross's second marriage to British Emily. This takes place in London where the wedding takes place. Joey, Chandler, and Ross's sister Monica accompanied Ross for his big day but Rachel, Ross's exgirlfriend, and Pheobe, pregnant with her brothers babies, stay behind (for ovious reasons). This episode is especially eventful! Rachels relizes that she is still in love with Ross and takes the next flight to London to stop the wedding and tell him that she loves him and ultimately ruin everything! Also, Chandler and Monica, who have been best friends forever, take their relationship to a new level which marks the start of their secret new relationship. Rachel finally makes it to London after running into a few obstacles, and is about to tell Ross her true feelings but saw how happy he and emily are and hold back, simply giving him a hig and a congratualtions. Rachel attends the wedding with no intentions of saying anything. But as Emily and Ross are standing at the alter after emily says ,"I emily, take thee Ross....." and it is Ross's turn, he accidentally said the wrong name. Instead of Emily he says, Rachel. UH OH! Thats the end of the episode and the next one is coming on so I am going to watch it!
P.S. good luck to everyone studying for finals this weekend!

You know I hate? Ok. I was walking down the sidewalk today on my way to class. This "incident" took place under the wooden overhang that protects the students from the freefalling debris of the condtruction. As I walk past people I have a tendency to look at them. It's not like I'm trying to be creepy or anything, I just feel weird starring at the ground. So, today I was walking and casually looking at people as they go by and I saw this kid. He had a hood on so I could only see a portion of his face. I swear I thought it was this person I knew. As we passed each other I smiled and said, "Hey! How are you?" I got no response. He stopped and looked at me and pulled his hood down. He had the weirdest look on his face. It wasn't who i thought it was. I was soooo embarrassed! I swear it looked exactly like this one person, trust me. So this was one of the many embarrassing things I do in the course of the day.

Here is the works cited of one of the articles i found related to my final project topic
Thomaselli, Rich. "Beauty's New, ER, Face." Advertising Age. Chicago: 15, Aug 2005. Vol. 76, Iss. 33; pg.1, 2pgs.
"And it could mark a shift in how women are portrayed in media and advertising, images often blasted as being unattainable and the cause of low self-esteem and even eating disorders among young girls" (Thomaselli 1).

Walking to class this morning made me realize that im really not ready for it to be cold, all the time. I could handel it being cold for a day or too because i knew that it was going to be warmer on no time. But its almost Thanksgiving which is almost Christmas, which means snow and feezing weather is here. In four days, I will going home to Pittsburgh where it will probably be about the same if not worse. Winter weather has its good and bad parts. Its good in the way that it id beautiful on christmas morning when you wake up, open presents, eat a big breakfast with your family, and oyu look outside and it is snowing. But the bad parts, I think, outweigh the good. I remember when i first got my liscence, it was the beginning of the winter season. I was anxious and excited to get out on the open road. My parents, being the causious and overprotected people that they are, would not let me take the car even if there was the slightest dust of snow on the pavement. Some people endure the snow and ice, and unfortunately get into accidents. I cant say that I didnt have a lot of good times in the snow when i was younger but right now, with the responsiblilties that I have, the weather kinda gets in the way.

Yesturday, I found out what I recieved on my Math 110 test. Now you dont really need to know exactly what I got but it wasnt a 100% but i also didnt fail. But anyways, I came out of the test thinking that I didnt too to bad. I was able to answer all the questions without a problem, I knew that stuff. When I got my score back, I was sorta mad. There were some questions on the exam that are what I consider not math. Questions like, which of the following is true with answers like, all of the above, a and b or b and c. Now how does that show you know how to work a math problem? I am mostly saying this because I think those are the ones that I miss but still I dont think that are appropriate ways of displaying ones knowlegde of math problems. I also think that the grading scale is screwed up. There are only 20 questions, each worth 5 points. If you only miss 4, you already get a B-. And also because it is a scantron, you either get the question right or wrong, no half credit. In high school, all my math tests were hand written. So you could get some credit for having the right process but not quite getting the right answer. With a scantron, you have the exactly right process but not get an answer that is listed and therefore getting it wrong. You knew what you were doing and how to solve the problem, but probably just made a stupid mistake is the process that caused you not to get the right answer. For that you are penalized 5 points!!! I think that math tests should be changed to be hand written but I know that is a bit unrealistic because it would be hard to grade that many exams. I still think that written exams would be the best way to determine what the students has learned and knows and will recieve the grade they deserve.

The picture above is from the new Dove campeign for Real Beauty. It is a ground-breaking advertising campaign featuring ‘real women’ of different ages, shapes, skin tone, hair colour and chest size. I think that this photo will compliment well with my final project. I proposed that a change be made in the way products are advertise. Real women buy the products therefore real woman should play the roles of advertising them. The use of the "ideal beauty" affects teenagers are causes them to be unsatisfied with their bodies and developing unhealthy eating habits and diets to accomplish the ideal beauty. If real women are used, then these girls will become more comfident in who they are and will not be under the pressure of society and the media telling them that they have a specific look in order to be considered beautiful. This picture shows that the advertising is getting better and is beginning to turn in the right direction. A new, positive message is being sent to teengage girls and I hope that this trend continues for the better of the teenage population.

I woke up this morning thinking it was going to be just another normal monday, but boy was I wrong. I went to theatre 100, my first class of the day, sat in the third to last row in the middle section, third seat over. the homework for the weekend was to read the play, "The Three Sisters," nad usually after we have read a new play, we have a pop quiz. As I was sitting there, I was reviewing over the play, making sure I got all the details down. At the same time, I was eating my bagel and drinking my coffee from the creamery. Before I knew it, scantrons were being passed out for the quiz. I put my books away and my coffee on my desk, nad passed the scantrons down the row. One very important detail of taking the quiz other than the answers is your student id number. Well, I have a little fun fact about me, I am not very good at remembering passwords and number, much like my student id number. Every time I have a test or a quiz I just take my id out and write down the number and then put it back into my backpack. But for some reason today was different. When I went to put my id back into my backpack it must not have quite made it there because when i went to get into my building my id and key were no where to be found. I immediatly assumed that i left it in my theatre because that was the last place i saw it and I had no reason to take it out in my english class. I immediatly walked back to the forum and to the classroom to see if it was still there lying on the floor. There was a class in session and I didnt want to interrupt/ I was too embarrassed to go in, so I just waited outside unil they let out. I went in thoroughly looked through the row i was sitting in and the rows below it in case it got kicked down. But I had no luck, it was no where in sight. I was very much near tears at this point. I know it happens all the time but its a hassel and inconvienent to pay and get a new id and the locks changed. But I also had my mac card in it which would have had to be cancelled. I walked back to east and went straight to the commons to get a temorary key and id. The woman was actually a bit rude. I thought this happened all the time. But whatever. So I was able to get back into my room and go on my computer. The first thing I always do is check my email. And the screen came up saying that it was downloading 1 new message. I scrolled down nad I saw that I got an email with the subject, ID found! I was soooo excited and relieved! But since I already had a temporary id and key I just told him that I would get it from him in the next class on wednesday. This shows that there are some people out there who care about other people. He didnt have to pick it up or even let me know that he had it. I'm sooooo lucky and i think i will memorize my student id number now!

Last night, one of my friends here dad took a few of us out to eat downtown. He was in for business meetings and treated us to an evening away from the interesting food selection of Findlay dining commons. My friends name is Jillian and she is from Pittsburgh. She went to a high school that is about half hour away from me. she also worked with me over the summer but I didnt really get a chance to know her until now. She is actually a student at Tulane in New Orleans but given the circumstances she is attending her first semester of college her at Penn State. I know she loves it but it wasnt her first choice to come here (which I cant quite understand) and she will continue the rest of this year and 3 years to follow at Tulane. Back to the story of last night. Her dad came in for business reasons and took us all out to dinner downtown at a restuarant called Spatz. It is a New Orleans cuisine restaurant. When we were seated our silverwear was wrapped in marti gra beads. I thought that was just the cutest thing. I unwrapped them and wore them around my neck to get into the mode. After scimming the menu i could not find anything that really tickled my fancy. This was the moment that I came to the conclusion that I did particularly like New Orleans food. But I ordered a soup and salad cause I knew I couldnt go wrong with that. After everyone was finished with their salad our waiter brought out what I thought to be dessert. It was the strangest thing. But to my surprise, it was just a little taste of lemonsherbert to clense the palet. I dont think my palet really needed to be clensed because all i ate was a salad but whatever. It was good and I enjoyed it. That was the highlight of my day. I got a free meal, it was a change of atmosphere, and gave me a break from studying. Thanks Jillians dad!

After reading the poem, The Red WheelBarrow by William Carlos Williams, I thought it was a short and sweet poem. Yes, I would consider it a poem. It has an even number of versus, 4, and the number of syllables is in a pattern, the first and last line have 6 syllables and the two middle versus have 5. My first read through, I didn't really look deep into it the meaning. I simply thought it was about a wheelbarrow sitting in the rain on a farm. Then, I did a little research to come up with a meaning. I looked up the description on wikipedia of a wheelbarrow. A wheelbarrow is designed to be pushed by a single person to ease the transport of heavy, often loose loads. It is often used in the construction industry and in gardening. The one-wheel in the front gives it better maneuverability. In the poem, he specifically defines that the wheelbarrow is the color red. I looked up of what the meaning of the color red is and I recieved the following possibilities. Red is the color of fire and blood which could symbolize energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination. Red is also a color that is often used in the flags of different countries, sybolizing courage. After coming up with this research, I read the poem over again. What I thought was that the wheelbarrow symbolizes someone who has a lot of responsibilites and obligations resting on their shoulders. Like a wheelbarrow, so much depends on them. It states that it is beside the chickens. Which I am assuming it is used on a farm for cleaning or transporting food. Without it the farm would work a little slower. The poem also states that the wheel barrow is glazed wioth rain water. This can not be a good thing. I think that for the person, the rain symbolizes something in their life that is someone holding them back or slowing them down. There are so many things that need to be done but their productivity in hindered by something. The last detail is the color of the wheelbarrow. Williams chose to have the color be red for a reason. Red can mean many different things but depending on what it is put with, determines which meaning. Because the wheelbarrow is described to be of the color red, I think that it symbolizes strength, power, and determination. This relates to the man who has many responsibilities but is held back by something. He has to have the streghth and determination to get his responsiblities done even though it is going to be hard. I could be very wrong but that is the beauty of a poem. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and thoughts. You can agree or disagree. But this is what I think.

I'm assuming everyone has noticed that it is snowing outside right now. What is that? I had to break out the winter ski jacket and boots which were tucked safely away in my closet not prepared to see the cold white puffs for many more weeks. It was the first time I saw happy valley not so happy this afternoon! Now dont get me wrong, I like when it snows but the slush and water on the sidewalks was kind of a drag. But I stongly suggest the next time this occurs, which could very well be tomorrow, to use an unbrella. You end up 10 times colder if your hair is wet and you will jsut be miserable if you are sitting in class with wet hair! But if you decide to do so, make sure you have gloves because my hand, exposed to the harsh winter wind, almost froze off. I think that the fact that its snowing also does something to you phcycologically. The dark, dreary, and cold atmosphere makes you seem more mellow maybe even unhappy. the fact that it is no where near christmas and its snowing also might have an effect. I feel bad for those that are not used to this type of weather. It can come as quite a surprise. But I am from Pittsburgh so I am not that surprised that it is snowing. I remember one year it snowed on Halloween and my princess costume got ruined. But I didnt want to end the trick or treating early so I went back to my house changed into snow boots, pants, and jacket nad went back out! But right now Im going to dinner, out to bear the cold once again!

Deletions:
After reading the poem, The Red WheelBarrow by William Carlos Williams, I thought it was a short and sweet poem. Yes, I would consider it a poem. It has an even number of versus, 4, and the number of syllables is even, The first and last line have 6 syllables and the two middle versus have 5. My first read through, I didn't really look deep into it the meaning, I simply thought it was about a wheelbarrow sitting in the rain on a farm. Then, I did a little research to come up with a meaning. I looked up the description in wikipedia of a wheelbarrow. A wheelbarrow is designed to be pushed by a single person to ease the transport of heavy, often loose loads. It is aften used in the construction industry and in gardening. The one-wheel in the front goves it better maneuverability.

Last weekend, all my football teams lost: my high school, Penn State, and the Steelers. It was not a good football weekend for me! This weekend on the other hand, 2 of my teams won! But just a little fun fact, it wasnt a surprise that my high school football team didnt win last weekend or this past weekend for that matter. Their record last year was 0-10, they didnt win one single game. Well, anyway, back to my two successful teams. On Saturday, me and my friends went to TGIFridays on Atherton to watch the first half of the game. We absolutly crushed Illinoise! Everyone was cheeing the first few touchdowns but it slowly died down. It was ovious we were going to win! then on sunday, my "Stillers" played the Bengles. And we won, of course! Can you say superbowl 06?

http://thebosh.com/archives/laughter.jpg

Obviously, this is a picture of a woman laughing. The Webster definition of laughing is : "To show mirth, joy, or scorn with a smile and chuckle or explosive sound b : to find amusement or pleasure in something c : to become amused or derisive." I chose this icon to represent me because I love to laugh. I think that knowing this quality, you can get a good feeling for who I am as a person. Now, I want you all to click on the link below.

http://www.thepocket.com/wavs/moneypit3.wav

This is the uncontrollable laugh of Tom Hanks in the movie "The Money Pit." You can't possibly tell me that this did not make you laugh, at least a little. Laughs are contagious! If you ask anyone that knows me or has even met me, they would most likely agree with the fact that I am always in a good mood. I'm not really sure why but I guess it just takes a lot to put me down. Another characteristic people might say about me is that I'm always smiling. Smiling makes everyone around you feel better and only good things can come of that. One last interesting tid bit about myself is that I LOVE to laugh! I love to make other people laugh and I love it when they make me laugh (which is at pretty much everything). But I will admit that my laugh may be at times a little loud and kind of obnoxious. Its not as bad as Mr. Hank's but it is without a doubt weird. But I don't care because if my laugh makes others laugh that is all that matters. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention. Laughing can come in handy in an awkward situation. Has that ever happened to you? It could be anything from tripping on the sidewalk to having a conversation with someone you don't particularly like. It makes you feel better about yourself and in a way gives you a sense of confidence. So, for my icon I chose a picture of a woman laughing because I think that it is a pretty good representation of me.

How-To: Live with your college roomate

Everyone, their first year of college has to live with a roomate. This is probably, for most, the first time they have ever had to share a room. This room is no luxery suit, it is a 12 by 14 foot dorm room. For those who had to share a room at home, it was most likely with a family member. In college, your roomate is someone you dont know. It is someone you know nothing about. They could sleep walk, yell in their sleep, be really messy, or stay up really late. The following is a how to for living with your freshman year college roomate.

1. When you first find out their name, where they are from and their phone number friend them on facebook. It is much less awkward than calling them right away.

2. Send them facebook messages or im them just casually talking about thier likes and dislikes, hobbies etc.

3. Find out when a good time would be for either of you to call each other. You dont want to catch them at a bad time because then they will be annoyed before they even get to really know you.

4. When talking on the phone, dont be too forceful. Dont fire out a million questions. Just let the conversation flow normally. But make sure you do plug in the necessary questions. Such as who brings the TV, or who brings the carpet. You need to be sharing from the start. You will be sharing those things for the entire school year.

5. Talk at least one more time before finally meeting in person on move in day.

6. On move-in day, say hi and give them a handshake or a hug (whichever you prefer). I know its a pretty stressful day but try your best to talk while you are unpacking everything. Then ask him or her if they want to go to dinner together. That way you can have more time to talk and get to know each other better.

7. After the awkward first meet, just go on with your day, you would normally. Dont do anything different or try to hind any weird habits. They are going to show themselves eventually so you might as well not surprise your roomate. You both are going to have and do different things. A big part of it is to compromise.

8. Its very important to get along. This is the person you live with. If they do something that gets on your nerve just brush it off. If it is something really bad, go talk to your RA. They had to go through training and learned how to deal with these situations.

9. Im not asking you to be best friends with your roomate. It actually might be a good idea if you are not. But you at least have to get along. Agree to Disagree. Just shut your mouth, do your work and go to sleep. Dont do anything that you know gets on their nerves. Its their problem and you would just be making the situation worse. Its going to be hard but next year you can get an apartment and have a room all to yourself. Just suck it up and deal!

Saturday, October 1st

I cant believe it is already october!!! It was about a month and a week ago since our first day here at Penn State University. The time here seems to fly by! Classes are tough and there have been many late nights but there are more times than not that are so much fun! I am having such a great time and I will never regret choosing this university!
Two nights ago I went to an informational meeting about Thon. Thon is a Panhellenic 48 hour Dance Marathon to raise money for pediatric cancer research. It is one of the big events Penn State is world renowned for. Upon getting accepted, I immediatley knew that I wanted to get involved with Thon. I absolutely love kids and helping others and this is the perfect way to do both! to be involved, I dont have to be a dancer. There are many other committees one can be a member of. A few including, Finance, Hospitality, Marketing, Morale, Rules and Regulations and Public Relations. At the meeting, the students who have been devoted members of these committees performed small skits to let us know a little bit about what they do. After watching, I have decided I want to be a part of the either the Morale or Hospitality Committee. The moral committee goes around to those dance participants who are getting tired and pumps them up. They wake them up to get them to keep dancing until the 48 hours is up. The hopspitality committee has stands set up with tons of food and water. During the 48 hours, the participants need lots of food and water. When they need it, the hospitality member hands them as much as they need while also keeping them pumped up by dancing and yelling shhowing thier support! The application is due on Monday and I have to put down my top three choices of committees to be on and answer a series of questions but I really hope they choose me to be a part of this great cause and I encourage you all to also apply!!!!

Sunday, October 2nd

How about that game yesturday! Oh my gosh it was such a good one! This time I did not get a sunglass tan and I did not put one of those tatoo paws on my face so for me it was a great day! I had my white towel in one hand and my pom pom in the other and was ready to cheer my team to victory! But I have to brag for like a few minutes though. I met the quarterbacks and linebacker of the football team. It was at the corner where Caynon pizza is. My friend pointed them out and so we had to go over and introduce ourselves. I first met Michael Robinson and Tony Hunt. They were so nice and seemed really interested to talk to us. You would think they would be annoyed but oh contraire. My other friend told him she has his jersey and he thought it was the coolest thing ever. Then sort of off to the side was Paul Plansauski (i have no idea how to spell his last name). He was so "freakin" huge!! I couldnt believe it! We introduced ourselves to him and congratulated him on such a great game! We also made a comment on the scape on the bridge of his nose. That is from like the best play of the game, when he head butted a player from the other team out of bounds. He was also so nice! There were so many other people around that wanted to meet him so we were forced to say our goodbyes until the game on Saturday!

Wednesday, Oct. 5th

Tonight I am going to see a play called "Bat Boy at the Playhouse Theatre. If you dont where that it, its ok I didnt either. It is right next to the forum in front of the big fountain. You are probably why I am going to see it. If you assumed it was for my own enjoyment, you are terribly mistaken. I am taking a class called Theater 100. It is surprisingly a very fun class. We read and study different plays and then the "company" (the graduate school acting students) acts some of the scenes out. But I dont understand is why we have to go see this particular play and we have to pay for it ourselves: 14 dollars! Now Im not a very stingy person, but I definately we should not have to pay to do a homework assignment for a class. We (and when I say we im mean our parents) are already paying for the class itself in addition to the books. This is not the only play we have to go see. There are still two others later in the semester, "Translations" and, "The Afghan Woman." Back to the "Bat Boy," I thought I would give you a brief overview of the story. Well, its a musical, which really interests me because I was in the spring musical of four years of high school. But the description is what really turns me away. It is about a half boy, half bat creature that pulls at your heart strings and tickles your funny bone as he strives for acceptance by the one he loves. Its mind boggling, I know, you are gonna have to hold yourself back from going to see this. I mean why wouldnt you its about a bat boy in love. But I will leave you on the note of: just look at the picture below and wish me luck in enduring this 3 hour long musical.

Thursday, Oct. 6th

I went to see the musical, "Bat Boy" last night and Im sure you are all just dying to find out how it was. Well, in two words I can pretty much sum it up: freaking weird! Words can not explain how weird it was. It was the total opposite of what I expected although how much can you expect from a musical called "Bat Boy." I went to go see it with my friend and I seriously dont know what I would have done if she were not there. I'll try my best to give you the basic outline of the story. It starts out with 2 brothers and a sister went exploring in a cave somewhere. They were doing something illegal when they noticed something or rather someone running around in the dark. When one of them shined their light on it they say this boy with bat ears and fangs. They tried to play with it and it bit one of the brothers in the neck. It was captured and ended up living in a cage with this family which later we find out is the creatures mother. The family teaches it and it ends up being a very sophosticated and briliant boy that they named Edger. Other stuff happens and the daughter in the family ends up falling in love with Edger but little does she know that he is her brother. I really dont want to go into detail on how the mother concieved this bat boy because it is really desturbing and gross. So to make a long, very unnecessarily long story short, The mother, father, and Edger kill themselves. This musical was based off a story in a tabloid. And I think the whole purpose was to make a point that everything you find in the tabloids are rediculous and are never true. I will compliment that the actors and actresses had very good voices and were good at playing their parts, it was just the plot that was so wierd. Although it was long, it was funny and it was a nice change of scenery than sitting in my room on my computer or watching TV. If you are into really creepy musicals that make no sense, I recommend you go see it but I would not have payed to see this if it werent required for a class.

http://www.ppu.org.uk/genocide/g_cambodia1.html

Genocide is defined as the systematic killing of substancial number of people on the basis of ethnicity, religion, political opinion or social statuc, to name a few. One very notorious example of this would be the genocide of the jewish population in germany during world war II. Because they were of a different religions, they were penalizedm ultimately resulting in death. I think that all confrontation is caused by differences existing in the world. One person views the world of having a unform look and thought and if a group does not fit under that description, they are elimated completely.
When I first heard of "Cambodia Genocide" I knew what it was but did not fully understand all the details. I "googled" that phrase and came up with a very informational sight listed above. After reading it, I learned more about the genocide in Cambodia in addition to what occured before and after. Cambodio was transformed into one huge group of collective farms with all the citizens working in forced labor camps. It was a mission to reconstruct Cambodia on the communist model of Mao's China. Everyone was forced out and children were separated from their families. Millions of people were killed based on the fact that they were different from what Pol Plot though was what Cambodia should be. Lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers, scientist, professional people in any feild or intellect and educated for that matter were murdered along with thier extended family. These people were killed because they worked hard to recieve an eduaction and help other people. They were there for everyone elses benefit and they were penalized for it. I think that the reason for this is the people in charge wanted to be the smartest, its makes them feel even more powerful. Religion was also banned and all monks were killed. Those in power did not want the people to be brainwashed with ideas and thoughts that differed from their own. The way they though is the way everyone else had to, if not, they would be penalized. People were even shot for knowing a different language, wearing glasses, laughing or crying. Civilian deaths have been estimated at well over 2 million! How is it that one person or a small group makes decisions that affect an entire nation? And the decisions dont even benefit most of them. Rules are made to satisfy the wants of one person and if those rules are broken, death is the consequence. People are even penalized for something they can not control. Such as the color of their skin or thier religion. It is very sad that people suffer for being different from everyone else. Who is to say that they are the different ones? Just because there are fewer of them does not mean that they do not belong and should be eliminated all together. What the world be like if everyone was the same? The difference between a people causing conflict has and always will exist. Some go to greater lengths to get their way than others. People suffered and their ansestor are still affected by it today.
I guess my answer tot he question of what caused the Cambodia Genocide is differences. One person decided that they wanted this country to be a certain way that pleased them and anything or anyone got in the way of accomplishing that, they would go to great lengths to eliminate the problem. It was a very sad event but it shows the power of of something so small and insugnificant as as wearing glasses can have such a negative outcome just because it does not agree with what one person thinks.

Monday, Oct. 10th

Its a monday. It was cold and cloudy. Its so weird how it went from being sunny and warm, like 80 degrees, to just yucky and 40 degrees. But to tell the truth, I think being cold isnt such a bad thing. I honestly could say that I would rather be cold than extremely hot. Although it depends where you are of course. If im at the beach i oviously dont want it to be freezing. I just love the feeling of being cold and then getting into bed and cuddling in the covers. That is when I get my best nights sleep! I also find that it is easier to get warm than get cooled off. But from what hear, the winters in State College are pretty brutal.
I live in Pittsburgh and we have 4 very distinct seasons. But sometimes the winters are really bad and the summers are really mild or vise versa. But I have never experienced the extreme winter of happy valley. I heard that the wind is what kills ya. Freezing winds from the mountains sweep down over the campus giving all the students frost bite! The wind is not the only thing though. The snow. I cant even imagine what it is going to be like to walk out of my building at 8 30 in the morning and have to walk through a foot of snow and slush.
Well, I just checked the weather for this weekend and it is supposed to be a high of 70 degrees. That is perfect! I wish we had weather like that this past weekend!

Tuesday, Oct. 11th

This weekend is something called Fall Break. We have no classes on Friday, for a "study day." But i can almost guarantee that many students will not be studying. Well, I can say that I will not be studying. I am going home to "da burgh" this weekend. I am jumping out of my skin with excitement! Now dont get me wrong, I absolutly love it here in happy valley but it has been 7 weeks since I have been home. All my friends except for one (she is too far at Vanderbuilt in Tennessee) are going to be home too! I get to see all of them along with my friends that are seniors this year. I get to go shopping at my favorite stores and eat my favorite homecooked meals! Im just really excited to be in a familar place. A place where I share a shower and bathroom with only one other person (my sister). But I think it is going to be a little wierd. I have to live out of a suitcase when Im in my house. I have to pack to go home. That concept it very different, it is usually the other way around. I think it is also going to be hard to leave and come back here. I will be very excited to hang out with all my new friends here gain but I will miss me family and my friends from high school. I was really close with those girls and it is definatly going to be a big transition. But I think going home for a few days will help!

Thursday, Oct. 13th

When I went to write this blog, I wanted to write about something the relates to me but not directly. Maybe something that everyone could relate to. I went to cnn.com to find an article that I could read and respsond to. The the site came up, I looked to the left at the list of the most popular articles. The last one on the list was "Campus Style: Hottest Fashion Trends." I thought this would be an interesting one for many because it is about college kids and what they wear. According the them, the hottest trends are the mochasins, the t-shirts that were "your heart on your sleeves," and purposely ripped jeans. Im just saying that these are the most popoular trends but does not mean everyone goes along with it. I do wear all these things but i dont really condsider myself following the crowd. When I go shopping, I buy things that I like and that look good on me, not because it is what everyone else has. It just so happens that every store in the mall is selling these type of clothes. Next time you are waling to your next class see how many people are wearing the items listed above and I think you will be surprised how many you find!
P.S. I am not going to be around this weekend so I hope everyone has a great day off and Ill see you on monday!!

Monday, Oct. 17th

Monday is almost over! Mondays are such a drag. They seem to go so slow especially after coming back from a weekend of relaxation at home. Earlier tonight I had a yearbook picture for a club that I am in called the PRSSA (Public Relation Student Society of America). I recieved an email a few days ago of this picture and it said to come "professionally dressed." Now, I dont know about anyone else but I surely did not come prepared to college because I had nothing nice especially not professional to wear. All I wear all week are sweatpants and sweatshirts. But dont worry i put together something and luckily I did bring these one pair of high heels. I have never really had problems walking in them until today. First of all my feet have gotten used to flip flops, clogs and my boots and have not gone through proper training to undergo such a strenuous workout and hardship as walking in heels. Also, the rough terrain definately does not work in their favor. I trip on the uneven sidewalk with tennis shoes on, and I cant even imagine the number of times I will trip 3 inches higher off the ground. The picture took place in the HUB so I had to walk from here all the way there in my heels. It was truly an experience. It was all down hill. Which some might assume would be a good thing, but oh contrar. Going uphill is much easier than downhill. Im not really sure why it just is. I made it there without at scraped knees or broken ankles. But I can ensure that I will not be putting my feet into a pair of heels in a long, long time!
