Another problem with only trying a few juveniles as adults is the media attention. America is a country populated with scandal-hungry people. And the media feeds them. What is more scandalous then a juvenile committing a crime and being tried as an adult? The media swarms over these stories. In Littleton, Colorado Eric Harrison and Dylan Klebold, when on a shooting spree throughout their school in April of 1999 killing twelve students and one teacher (Twohey). Everything from news to magazines focused on these two boys until the end of their trial. While the shooting spree was occurring there were helicopters flying overhead filming it. Even if these boys must spend the remainder of their life in prison they received their fifteen minutes of fame and are known nationwide. Does not every teenager have a dream of becoming famous? The media focus and the fame convicted juveniles receive may make the idea of committing a crime be more appealing.
