December Blogs (The few that we'll need)

December 1, 2005

I can't believe that it is December already. We have a week and a day left of class. This is truly amazing, as the time this fall has flown by. Moreover, it seems like 2005 has flown by. This was the year I had always wondered about as a kid since it was the year I would be graduating and going to college. Just looking back at last December, it seems like it was so long ago, and I had no idea where I would be going yet. There was a lot of drama back in the spring with girlfriends, and I am glad to be out of high school for that reason. Anyways, the remainder of the semester will be pretty tedious, as I will have to write the paper for this class and study for three exams. Wish me luck...

Tomorrow is a huge day in college football. The conference championships are playing throughout the day, and several are very important. USC plays UCLA, and Texas plays Colorado, which are the two teams in front of us in the BCS. I believe if Texas loses, then we will move above them; however, if USC loses, I think they will still hold the second spot. Our predicted bowl opponent, Virginia Tech, plays Florida State for the ACC championship. If Va Tech loses, I have no idea what will happen. It was predicted that LSU will play West Virginia and Notre Dame will probably play Ohio State, but if the Hokies lose, that may mess everything up. Texas begins the big day, playing at 1, and USC follows, playing at 4:30. LSU, probably the game with the least importance to us, plays at 6. To end the day, Virginia Tech plays Florida State at 8.

It's already been a great weekend for football. The MAC championship game last night might have been the best game I've seen all season. I'm looking forward to one more weekend of not getting any work done on Saturday! - EschaTon

This snow is insane. Saturday night, in the East Quad, I was part of the biggest snowball fight I have ever seen. There had to be at least 200 people out there. It was pretty much like Braveheart. There were two main sides, charging each other and meeting in the middle. A couple people got hurt, and one kid had to go to the emergency room to get stitches on his face.

What sucks is that we won't get off school for this. I heard that there has to be almost blizzard-like circumstances for the authority to even consider us getting off. I think this is crazy, as there is ice all over the place. I almost fell three times just last night, so I can't imagine what it will be like in January and February. I think once spring comes, I will appreciate it a lot more than in the past since there is such bad winters up here.

Listen to this BS. My friends Andrew, David, and I went running on the stairs of Schreyer's Honors College, and I brought my bookbag along and set it down on the side of the stairs near the top. We were almost done running, when we looked up and my bookbag wasn't there. We were stunned. How could someone steal it right in front of us when it was in our vision the whole time? Someone was just asking for a whoopin. We asked the dorm secretaries if someone maybe turned in a bag or if we could try calling our phones that were in the bag. My bookbag contained: all three of our dorm keys and psu id cards, our phones, andrews wallet with 40 bucks, my spanish books, my flash drive, three gatorades and four Smucker's Uncrustables. We tried calling both of our phones, but they were turned off, so that meant that they were definitely stolen. I was mostly pissed about my phone, and I had to think of a way to try to find it. We ran up to East, to ask the Commons people what we should do, and they gave us temporary cards and keys. We ran down to the Eisenhower Parking deck to talk to the University Police, and they filed a report and took note of everything in the bag and how much it was worth. In the meantime, I had to take a Spanish oral exam, which I had planned to study for before class with the book I had brought in my bookbag, however, I could not. That went pretty smoothly, and I came back to my dorm room. My roommate said that they were arranging to change our lock in the morning. I deactivated my phone just in case they try anything funny. We went back to the commons to ask them about our cards, and I look up and see my bookbag sitting there. I could not believe it. We opened it up, and the kid stole my spanish book, Andrew's cash, and my flash drive. We walked back down to the University Police and told them that we found it and they said there's no use in filing a report since we got it back and there's nothing we can really do about the lost stuff. How screwed up are people? WHY would you bring it all the way from Schreyer's up to East if you are that badass enough to steal it in the first place? It doesn't make any sense. If I would have seen him carrying it up to East, I would have gotten in trouble.

I guess I will talk about the Orange Bowl. My friend Kyle, who goes to Ferrum College in Virginia, was going to go dowo to Boca Raton with me in January. This is where my Aunt and Uncle live, and it is really close to Miami. I walked over to the Bryce Jordan Center, just to see how hard it would be to get a wristband, and the line was wrapped all the way around the inside and outside of the building. It was ridiculous. Kyle and I have been bidding on E-Bay, but we aren't that serious about going yet. I am sure that my Aunt would let us stay with them, but the trouble would be flying down there, and getting to and from the game. I think we are just going to have a huge party at home instead of going down to Florida and spending a fortune.

The snow is coming down like rain. I can hear people screaming outside, and I am going to try to finish up my homework as quickly as possible so I can go join the fun outside. It feels good to have finished two of my classes today, and I have two more tomorrow. Wednesday will feel the best, when my last final is over, and I get to go home on Thursday. I was proud of myself today, as somehow I found the motivaton to get up at 8 a.m. and go to the White Building to lift and swim. Thursdays are usually my sleep-in day, but I decided to get up early and go so I wouldn't have to walk over to the IM building at night when it is colder. Time to go play in the snow...

Last night, I heard that back home in Carroll County, there was a skirmish at the Westminster Airport that resulted in a shooting. One man was left dead, another injured, and the shooter got away. We rarely have news such as this in our county, as it is usually kept in Baltimore county which is adjacent to us. Aside from this shooting, two high schools from my county are in the State Finals and play at Ravens Stadium this weekend. Since when was Carroll County good at football? When I was a junior, my team made it to the State Final Four, but lost in a 6-0 swamp game. My high school plays Potomac High, who will be playing in Ravens Stadium for the third straight year. I need to go home and see what is going on with Carroll County.

Advice to people taking English 015:

Come to the class ready to learn how to improve your writing while having fun at the same time. You have to write about six papers, and most of them you get to pick your own topic. I suggest that when you begin writing the paper, finish a couple days before the deadline so you can get friends, peers, and even your teacher to proofread and edit your work. I also suggest taking a strong view while writing your paper, because it will help you organize your points in a way that flows. In conclusion, be ready to learn several ways to argue and learn a lot of other things at the same time.
