Our world is corrupt. Every day, crimes are being committed, and innocent people are being hurt. According to the U.S. prison population, in 2002 one out of every 142 U.S. residents was in prison. It is nearly impossible to turn on the news without seeing a fire that was started, a child who was kidnapped, or a woman who was raped and murdered. Every community is searching for ways to eliminate the evil. There are neighborhood watch programs, community police, and other techniques implemented for the purpose of stopping crime and eliminating evil. One community in Iowa turned to meditation to stop the evil in the community. “The idea is this: If enough people come together to meditate side by side, they will create a sort of force field that can repel hatred. The trick is gathering enough mediators in one place. So folks in Vedic City plan to build a theme park here to attract tourists who, they hope, will do a little yogic flying in between rounds of golf” (Simon). Will this work? I believe that the answer to this question can be summed up in one word: no. However, I do believe there are ways of eliminating evil. The best way to do this is presented in the movie, The Boondock Saints.
