The key to getting to the bottom of any problem is to find a solution that works. To end the problems and effects reality TV causes, there are two possible solutions which may work. The first one being that we eliminate the type editing which deals with depicting events and showing what really does happen. The second solution could be making the FCC have stricter guidelines in letting reality shows be what they are today. If they are going to use editing to make things more interesting, a warning in the beginning of the show should be mentioned stating that editing does affect what is being shown.
The first possible solution would be very helpful in showing what reality is really like and will show the cast’s true characters. It will help to understand that these people are not what they seem to be and viewers will get to see what these shows are really like. The only problem that could occur is if they are not interesting enough to capture the viewer’s attention. This problem would be useful because this would be a way to show that reality is not always going to be exciting and action-packed. It will help viewers realize that their life could be even better.
The second solution could work better because even though there are stricter guidelines, it will let reality shows still keep doing what they are doing but with a different beginning and end to them. The FCC would play a big role in this because they are the deciding factor of what can and cannot be shown on TV by the Office of Media Relations.
The Office of Media Relations (OMR) is responsible for the dissemination of information on Commission issues. The office is responsible
for coordinating media requests for information and interviews on FCC proceedings and activities and for encouraging and facilitating
media dissemination of Commission announcements, orders, and other information. OMR manages the FCC Daily Digest, the FCC internet
website and the Commission's Audio Visual Center (FCC).
If they can issue a warning before and after the show, it will be more helpful for the viewers not to get totally absorbed, get the wrong message, and even believe in the “normal” people which the show promises to have.
These two solutions could be possible and would be beneficial to society and media's ways of entertainment.
