Religion is like a plague that has infected the world since the earliest of human civilizations. I have a theory that religion was once used in ancient times as a way to control a large growing population. In those times the people in charge and the enforcers of the law could not possibly watch everyone all of the time. It would have been wise to have the people believe that even though they are not being watched by human eyes all of the time that there is a greater power that sees all. That this power judges you and if you have been a bad person you will get sent straight to hell (Hades in the underworld, purgatory, yama or one of many other names for hell) [This is not a complete sentence]. In my project I will give many examples of how several religious beliefs and events fit this theory. However I feel that religion has not always been so helpful and has caused a great amount of damage in the past and continues to do so in present times. I also feel that the world no longer needs religion to help control its populations.
Also beyond all of this you still have the bloodshed of religious conflicts [This sentence is very confusing in its structure]. From the Catholic Protestant killings in North Ireland to the Hindu-Sikh-Muslim massacres in India, to the Orthodox-Catholic-Muslim horror in former Yugoslavia. These are but a few of the more recent conflicts of the 1990’s. The bombing of the World Trade Center and “The War on Terror” only brings religious conflict with us into the new millennium. Religious war and conflict have been occurring throughout civilization and it doesn’t appear that they will stop any time soon.
I will try my hardest to make this argument on film. In this day and age people pay more attention to films and are more likely to get the full impact of my idea [Good reasons]. If my audience had only a paper to read, I would feel that with my current writing skills they would probably miss several of my ideas. [I would have liked, here, to see what you are planning to make of this film? What is it going to include?]
[Based on our discussions after your presentation on Wedeneday, I know you've made changes to your argument. As structured, this argument would not have been as affective (its too inflammatory). Also, there are several incomplete sentences and such.]

Religion has proven itself to be an extremely greedy organization. Everything from the filling of the collection plates to asking for tithes (which is giving a percentage of your take home pay over to the church). I don’t even need to tell you about “televangelists” and if the church gets really down on funds they can always start selling indulgences again. For what religion claims to be it has been far too profitable throughout the ages.
Religion has also proved itself to be a contender with civil law. Civil law through the ages has stated it is illegal to kill someone. However you look at witch burnings and the burning of other convicted heretics or another religion condoning the killing of all infidels. Also there was the burning of wives in India after the husband had died. Then there are all of the persecutions the Jews have had to go through and the Peoples Crusade led by radical monk “Peter the Hermit.” All of these deaths have been done above civil law and have been justified in the name of religion.
I believe that the only way to solve this ongoing problem is to simply rid the world of religion entirely. There are several good points to religion which I will also evaluate in my project but I feel that these good points are far out weighed by the bad. You may feel this to be an extreme action that will upset a large portion of the world. However I feel it is the best way to solve this problem because no other way has yet to work. Other ways have not worked because religious law and value clash with civil laws. Civil laws can be bent or broken in the name of religion. When you see my final argument you will see many examples of the injustices caused by religion and how even today religion continues to cause its usual destructions with its hypocritical views.

Deletions:
Religion is like a plague that has infected the world since the earliest of human civilizations. It has been an ongoing problem and it continues to be one into present day. There have been too many tragedies in the name of religion. With this proposal I hope to put a stop to the hypocritical, bloody, multi-million dollar organizations that we call organized religion.
Religion has proven itself to be hypocritical on too many occasions. For example, the Catholic Church condemns the use of contraception and the act of abortion. However it is willing to overlook the sin of premarital sex. How is contraception worse than premarital sex? It is attitudes like this that mean more children for people who may not want them, or worse, for people who can not afford them.
Of course there is the greedy aspect of religion. Churches of several different faiths all over the world ask for tithes. Tithes are a percentage of your total take home income usually around 10% is asked. However several churches have different ideas, “Some say 10% is something to strive for, we say it’s only a place to start.” (Benjamin C. Maxson a leader of The Adventist World Church) Maxson continues to say “My concern is for the spirituality of the church. The finances are just a byproduct.” but this church earns 1.1 to 1.2 billion dollars a year from tithes alone. That’s a very generous byproduct.
There is also the matter of civil law vs. religious law. Religious law is subject to interpretation because of this many civil laws can be bent or broken without actually violating the religious law. Catholic priests are supposed to forgo sex. The definition of sex in civil law is very broad and can involve many different aspects (oral sex etc.). However religious law could interpret sex to be penetration only with the opposite sex. With that said a priest has found a loop hole in Gods law to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh, a young boy’s flesh that is. Religious restrictions have helped to create a countless number of perverts and child molesters. These people may have been upstanding citizens had they never encountered such restrictions and had to find loopholes in them. Even though child molesting is against civil law you could interpret it as not being against God’s law, therefore people may chance breaking civil law because they will still have a place in heaven regardless of if they are caught or not.

Deletions:
This is the roughest rough draft in the history of rough drafts....
Why something should be done? Or what not?
Argue that the problem exists and that it affects ….
Religion is like a plague that has infected the world since the earliest of human civilizations. Even now “the war on terror” is really the war on “the religious people who are waging war on us”
Propose solution…
Completely rid the world of organized religion. Tear down churches that are less than 40 years old and preserve the others for later historical value. For churches on the “preserved” list strictly enforce laws preventing people from entering the property. For areas where people persist, promptly remove that church from the list and tear it down.
Why is this solution better than others?
You may think this to be extreme action. Ridding the world of organized religion is a tall task that would probably upset a large portion of the world. However it is the best way because no other way has yet to work. Other solutions have not worked because people of religion feel that they have a higher divine law that takes precedence. Civil law can not protect you. Civil law states “you can not kill…anyone” and religious law states “thou shall not kill, except of course infidels, heretics, accused witches, widows…” and the list goes on.
Address that my proposal takes everything into consideration (all sides)
How does my argument make people want to care?
When you read my final argument you will see only a small number of the injustices that have been caused by religion, there simply isn’t time to list them all. Even today religion continues to cause its usual destructions with its hypocritical views.
Proposal: the problem is my idea and the paper is the solution…
What way to present my proposal and why?
