Have you ever seen something on a website that gives wrong information or you just don’t like it,[?] [W]ell there is a type of website that allows you to change it. It’s called a wiki. For those of you who are not familiar with a wiki, it is a website that anyone can go and edit. It is a neat idea because you can change anything you don’t like on the website. You can change sentences, add pictures or do anything that you want, if the website will allow you to do. The idea of the wiki seems to be a lot like a bathroom wall because anyone can go and edit it.
You know you have walked into a bathroom and looked at the walks around the urinal and read what people wrote on them. You could find funny things like pictures, jokes, along with, lyrics, phone numbers and some inappropriate things that people have written on these walls that entertain us while we do our business. Sometimes you might find something that you don’t like or want to make funnier so you can take a pen and edit it changing it how ever you would like to.
Another thing that is like a wiki is something with graffiti on it. It isn’t exactly legal but it allows people to express there ideas by writing on walls, cars, or pavements. With graffiti you can find pictures, jokes and many of the same things you would find on a wiki or a bathroom wall. This is visible to more people because it tends to be in public where anyone that passes can see it compared to a bathroom wall where only the people that go in there have the chance to see what is written[What else could you say about this? Would this be like how some wikis are more open than others?] [Should pick one for this paper. I think the bathroom wall works a little better, in this case]
The wiki, bathroom walk and graffiti are almost the same thing expect the wiki is online, the bathroom wall is in a bathroom and graffiti has many places it could be. The concept of free editing to anyone exists in the wiki, bathroom wall and graffiti. You can add to all of them pictures and text, which provide for some entertainment to anyone that reads it. They all provide information and whether the information is true or false is up to the reader to decide.[nice]
The only bad thing that could come out of this is some kind of copyright infringement or personal humiliation. If people use quotes and don’t cite them, it could lead to a lawsuit if someone wanted to make one. Another thing that could come out of this is personal humiliation if someone writes something about you that you are not comfortable about it being there. If you really wanted to, you could always go and take it down or cross it off, so those issues aren’t really a big deal. [Is this in the case of both a bathroom wall and a wiki? I'm confused, as you never state to which you are referring?]
[Overall, this is an interesting idea, but the paper is underdeveloped and not very linear in construction. It would have been more successful to discuss the bathroom wall metaphor at length, instead of introducing a second element of comparison.]
