Remixed Analogy Argument

Every day people walk from place to place. This is especially true here at Penn State, since walking is the most common mode of transportation. Does one ever stop to think about what is going on beneath his foot during each step? Millions of tiny organisms are killed with each step. A mere one hundred paced walk kills millions and millions of living creatures, and the foot just keeps going and going and going. For more reasons than one, the Nazis during the Holocaust were like a human foot.

Virtually everybody knows what occurred during the Holocaust. Hitler performed a mass extermination of all different types of people, and went virtually untouched (until the end of the war of course). The Nazis under his control were just like the human foot. They went on with their lives doing what they were told, killing one person at a time. The Nazis had no emotion [is this true?]. All of their actions were despicable, yet they didn’t think twice about it [where is the proof of this? there were a lot of people who knew what they were doing was wrong but did it anyway because it was what they were told]. This is the same as the human foot. Each step kills living organisms, some visible, some too small to be seen with the human eye [is this even true?]. The foot just goes through the motions: heel, toe, heel, toe. As long as it is moving, everything is okay. The Nazis were the same way. They developed a way of living their lives and developed their own routine. They just kept going: heel, toe, heel, toe.

Another reason that the Nazis are like a foot is because they couldn’t control their own actions because Hitler had them brainwashed [this is an overly reductive argument. did he really have everyone brainwashed?]. The foot is controlled by the ankle, which is controlled by the leg, which is controlled by a series of parts, all leading back to the brain. The foot does exactly what the brain tells it to do regardless of whether it is the right thing or not [is this the same thing as brainwashing?]. Hitler was the brain during Nazi Germany. Hitler gave commands to the people below him, who passed these commands onto others, who, in turn, passed the commands on to others. It was a series of orders all resulting in the murder of millions of people. The foot does not want to kill millions of organisms each second. It wants to do what it is told to do.

Many people would probably find this theory crazy. A foot doesn’t do nearly as much harm as the Nazis did. The Nazis killed people. That is far worse than microscopic organisms that mean nothing to our lives. This, however, is not the case. The Nazis viewed such people as the Jews, homosexuals, and all of the other people that they tried to destroy as microscopic organisms that meant nothing to their lives. All of these people were nothing to the Nazis. They barely even knew that they were killing actual people [... I don't think this is the case at all. they knew they were killing people, but their skewed religious/political beliefs said it was "okay"]. While this is a difficult concept to grasp, it is the case. The Nazis felt that they were just killing microscopic organisms that couldn’t even be seen.

The Nazis were a bunch of feet. They had no control of themselves and went on a path of destruction as long as they could [false]. The foot kills thousands of organisms with each step, and so did the Nazis. The Nazis were doing what their master told them to do. They were on a path of destruction, stomping on everything in their way.

[So this is a very well written essay (which is why your grade isn't lower). That said, there are a lot of claims here that are not substantiated in any way. Do you have some proof that we kill millions of microscopic organisms with every step? Do you have proof that the Nazis viewed the victims of the Holocaust as less than human? It's not in the paper and it really should be, especially when dealing with something this complex and emotionally charged.]

Analogy Argument

Every day people walk from place to place. This is especially true here at Penn State, seeing as how that is the most common use of transportation. Does one ever stop to think about what is going on beneath his foot during each step? Millions of tiny organisms are killed with each step. Each step kills living organisms, some visible, some too small to be seen with the human eye. The foot does not think twice about what it is doing. It just keeps one thing in mind: heel, toe, heel, toe. As long as it is moving, everything is okay. The Nazis were the same way.
