Today I took a tour of the new Forestry building with my AE seminar class. The forestry building is the building on Park between East and North Halls. We toured the construction site there and got to see everyone working. I enjoy my seminar class so much. Every time I go there I learn more about AE and really enjoy the class. I feel good about choosing AE as my major. I really feel that it’s something that I can be happy doing for the rest of my life. I understand that my major is one of the hardest here at PSU, but I think that 5 years of killing myself is gonna be worth it after I graduate. We'll see how everything goes.

Wed, Oct 19

I can’t wait for this weekend. First of all, my home resort is throwing a ski competition. Yes, in October. They are bringing in snow from a local ice rink and setting up a rail to ski on. It should be fun. Last year, more than 100 skiers and snowboarders came out to Roundtop’s competition. It was a blast. Also, my girlfriend is coming home with me for the weekend. It should be fun because she’ll get to see everything about my hometown. I hope it doesn’t rain. We’ll see. Hope you all have a good day.

Thurs, Oct 13

Thursday is by far my best day of the week. At 9 I have my chemistry recitation and at 10 I have my freshmen seminar. Chemistry recitation is easy and I really enjoy my AE seminar. I’m finished with class by 11:15 on Thursday and I have the rest of the day to do some work, eat fresh express, and just relax. I look forward to Thursdays so much and am definitely enjoying my day today. Have a great day everyone.

I'm pretty sure that Chem 14 is the single most ridiculous class ever...Officially. Chem 14 is a 4 HOUR lab that is required by most-if not all- engineering majors. Yes, I understand that for some of these majors, doing a Chemistry lab might be very relevant. But I think that for the large majority of majors, taking Chem 14 is useless. And for being a useless class, it's a lot of work. Going to a lab from 1:30-5:30 every Tuesday and sitting there dropping chemicals into beakers for 4 HOURS isn't something that's fun to do when it has no relevance to my life. 4 hours in class a week is more time than I spend in my Math class... thats sad. So basically, I'm forced to take quizzes on information before we learn it, sit in lab for 4 hours straight, do homework outside of class, and write a 5-10 page lab report for a class that has no relevance to my life or my major and is only worth one credit... sweet.

So that's what I'll be doing tonight.

As people continue to die in Darfur, we may ask ourselves why the situation is occurring. The Sudan is comprised generally of Black Africans, and Arab Muslims. This has been a problem since the beginning. The Arabs have always been the ones to hold power. They have ruled exclusively and have rejected the Blacks attempts at sharing power. Religion has also played a part in the genocide. The Blacks are mostly Christian and African Religions, while the Arabs are mainly Muslim. A holy war has been declared to kill the Black Africans. In general, the Muslims have less productive land than that of the Africans. This is another reason that the Africans are being killed. All these factors have lead to a situation where the Arab controlled government is wiping out a population using the Janjaweed. This is due to racial differences. The conflict in Darfur will most likely require a leadership change to ever be solved.

Over the past couple days, I've had some experience buying and selling tickets to the Penn State football games. It's quite an experience. Of course, I wasn't selling tickets... I was selling pencils... for 130 dollars...Not a problem. The pencil just happened to come with a ticket: the ticket was free. Just cause I'm a nice guy like that... Anyway, selling "pencils" really allows you to see the bargaining skills of some people. It's quite entertaining sometimes just to see some people's complete lack of common sense. But I guess that's just the world we live in. Have a great day everyone.

I'm kind of feeling a little disappointed right now... I just looked at saturday's weather report, and it is kind of scary. Its supposed to rain from around 10 am on Friday, until Sunday. I really hope that this doesn't happen, however, I have a feeling that I'm going to be wrong. The percent chance is between 80 and sometimes up to 100 percent. This will really throw off the white out, if it even happens at all. No white out would be so diappointing, because that would be amazing to see.

On a positive note, the football team came down to visit the camp site (recently deemed 'Paternovile') today. We got many autographs and got to meet Robinson, Scott, and Lowre, along with many others. It was really cool. Hope all goes well with the game, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what the weather decides to do. See you all at the game.

Tues, Oct 4, 2005

Last night was quite the night. At 8 PM, my roommate and I decided to go down to beaver stadium and check out the campers. Just to see how many were out there and stuff. We had no intention of camping. We talked to 2 of the campers and they both seemed really cool. There was still one section open for the first row. Ryan and I called a group of our friends right after we went home and started planning our campout. By last night, we had a canopy set up outside the stadium and we had reserved the last section for first row. Around 10 kids stayed wth us last night as we began our week long "camping trip". This morning I woke up on the hard asphault in my RA's sleeping bag, freezing cold. I packed up my things and made sure someone was staying to watch over the site and hold our place in line. I went back to my room, took a shower, and headed off to class. Right now I'm about to do it all over again. When I finish my work, I'm gonna pack my things and head back to Beaver Stadium. I can't wait for Saturday.

Lucky me... the wiki has returned and we are free to start our blogging again. This is actually my October 3rd
entry, but I'm writing this on Tuesday the 4th cause I'm a slacker. Actually, I'm just having a little trouble getting back into the habit of blogging. I kind of enjoyed a few days off, and started to continue that trend for an extra day. This entry is officially the restart of my blogging.

On another note, Penn State football... wow, we looked amazing on Saturday. Hopefully we can play like that against Ohio State.

How To Slide a Rail On Skis

1. Approach the jump with a wide stance. Keep your legs apart.
2. Make sure the rail is lined up with your crotch as you approach.
3. Pop off the lip of the jump, and turn your skis 90 degrees after you're in the air. (Don't begin to turn before leaving the jump.)
4. Land on the rail with your legs apart and weight forward.
5. Keep your eyes on the end of the rail.
6. After coming to the end of the rail, turn your skis back 90 degrees and land.

Warning
-Keep your weight forward. Your first time, you'll probably fall back and hurt your hip. You'll learn.
-Always have your skis turned while on the rail. Otherwise, you'll fall and split your legs on the rail. You do want to have kids, right?

Tonight I got in the shower, turned it on, and realized something. I really hate when you turn the water on and its really cold at first. I know, it's not that big of a deal, but the cold water really bothered me. It got me thinking about a blog entry for tonight. There are so many little things in this world that bother me just like the cold water in the shower. Here are a few that I could think of off the top of my head.

-When you have to sneeze, but you can't.
-When someone comes up and says hi, and you say hi back, and then can't remember where you know them from.
-When you hear a song, and can't remember the title.
-When you're hungry for something specific, and can't think of what it is.
-When you're trying to remember stuff for a blog entry and forget.

( I honestly had about 10 things that I can't even begin to think of right now. Looking back over my list, I think that I'm just really forgetful... Oh well.)

No surprise here. I had to come up with a picture that says a lot about me, so i chose a skiing picture. For the past 5 winters of my life, I have made the 45 minute drive to my local resort nearly 3-4 times a week after school. I absolutely love to go skiing. I love the speed, the air, the adrenaline, the challenge, and the friendship. There is nothing better than going out and hitting a rail with a few buddies who love skiing as much as you do. It's something that unless you experience it, you can't understand it. The feeling of being on snow, outdoors and just having some good old fashioned fun is indescribable. Last winter I went to Wyoming and Colorado skiing. It's definitely a huge part of my life, and I hope that it will be something that I am continually able to do until I die.

Dont get me wrong. I love going to Penn State games on the weekends, but i was just thinking about tomorrow. It's the first day that there hasn't been a home game this year. I'm kind of pumped actually. I get to sleep in until whenever and hopefully get a lot of work done. I'm so behind on Chemistry and tomorrow seems like the perfect opportunity to get caught up. Ill probably end up watching the game on tv anyway, but at least i wont be wasting time at tailgates and stuff. I'll probably be pretty bored tomorrow because my roommate is going home. But anyway, I need to finally do some work. We'll see how it goes... Later.

I'm kind of disappointed in what i read evolving in the blogs today. It seems as though a political arguement is on the horizon (or already here). Personally, I'm a conservative and am really rather tired of hearing uneducated people from both sides argue on the internet. I was really hoping that these blogs would not develop into a political arguement, but it seems that's what's happening. I'm just really hoping that if we do have to get into a political debate, it will be one without name calling, and with people backing up their views with facts and reasons. I enjoy a good, educated debate on occasion. It's just too bad that these EDUCATED debates are few and far between. I am personally so sick of hearing liberals and conservatives name-call and yell becasue they don't have any reasons to back up their opinions. Listening to people debate like this often times wears me down and gets me frustrated. Anyway, we'll see what happens. Have a great day everyone.

Tues, Sept 20, 2005

So, I was just sitting in my dorm room watching Family Guy, and I heard something that reminded me of this class. Peter and Lois were having an argument about a play that they were working on together. Peter was arguing that his ideas were better than hers, and that everyone liked his ideas better. She responded, "I dont care if the whole world likes your ideas. that doesnt make them good." I just thought this was interesting. Going by our definition of truth, the comment that Lois makes it false. By our definition, if the whole world liked them, they would be considered good. Just thought this was interesting.

Mon, Sept 19, 2005

Wow, last night was madness. I started my work at 8 o clock at night. I figured that i could knock out all my homework and be in bed by like 3. It would be all good. Boy, was I wrong. My roommate and I ended up both having marathon nights. I started my work at 8 and worked until a little after 7 in the morning. I woke up 40 minutes later and went to class. Needless to say, I'm pretty tired right now. Saturday night I was up until 4:30 taking care of a really drunk friend. So, the plan for tonight is to catch up on some sleep. It's 11 and I'm getting ready to head to bed. On another quick note, Facebook is a ridiculous website. The connections and the information that you can find is incredible. It's such a great resource, but you definitely have to be careful what information you provide... Night everyone

I could really get used to this college life. Doing whatever I want, whenever I want. It sounds so basic, but its actually really sweet. Anyway, I feel like I should miss my family more than I do. It's gotten to the point that when I get to the fifth floor of my dorm, I feel like I'm at home. I guess this is kind of a good thing, because I'm gonna be living here all year; but I still feel kind of bad that I don't miss my home at all... I hope that my mom never reads this cause she'll be really sad. Haha. Anyone else feel this way? or just me? Talk to you all on Monday

Thurs, Sept 15, 2005

Wed, Sept 14, 2005

I've just been thinking about the final project for this class and kind of dreading it. First of all, I'm kind of confused about the overall assignment. Yes, I know it has to be 10-12 pages, and I know that we're working in groups of 3-5. What I'm not sure about is what constitutes a 'group'. Is it just that we're all working on the same topic? Or are we actually consulting with these people to write 3-5, 10-12 page papers (if that makes any sense)? Anyway, I'm sure that as it gets closer to the time, we'll learn more specifics. I'll try to figure some stuff out in my convos tomorrow as well. Goodnight everyone.

Tues, Sept 13, 2005

Just something that I've been thinking about lately. It's been discussed on the news a lot regarding the Hurricane and whatnot. I'm talking about people playing the 'race card'. The progress against racism in our country has come a long way over the years. I think that we've come to a point where a decision has to be made. I feel that we are really close to a totally equal country; however, I don't believe that this will ever happen unless some things happen first. The race card HAS to stop being played. As long as blacks play the race card, they are saying that they deserve different treatment than whites. This is not equality. We need to look past race, for whites and blacks, and face issues as human beings. This is the only way that equality can exist.

I learned something very interesting this morning. I am SO behind on sleep. It's getting ridiculous. Since I got to Penn State, Ive gone to bed at 3-4 in the morning nearly every night. There have been maybe 2 nights that ive gone to bed between 2 and 3. This afternoon, I was taking a nap before my Chem lab and I woke up and just felt so tired. It was crazy. So I think Im going to start going to bed earlier. That's why I'm doing this blog at 9:30 tonight instead of like 2 in the AM. Anyway, I'm going to go do the rest of my work and then off to bed. Night everyone.

Mon, Sept 12, 2005

So It's Monday night, 8 minutes until the Eagles game starts. I've always rooted for the Eagles, and have been a moderate fan. Since coming to Penn State, I've witness the amazingly hardcore Eagles fans. Everywhere I go, E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles! I've also heard the common response, "Eagles suck!" Anyway, this world is filled with more hardcore football fans than I had every expected. The other night, we were at Are You Hungry? at 1ish in the morning, and some completely smashed guy was yelling at us telling us how great the Eagles were. He told us about the Jerseys that he was able to get for cheap at GoodWill. He was crazy. The game is about to start and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Especially because there were fights already before the game. Should be interesting. Go Eagles!

-thanks for using my narrative. yea i heard people screaming about the eagles, heard rebuttles, and heard threats. haha. -PatSmithBlog

Other's Self Narrative:

I would like to tell you about one of the happiest days of my life. I ride BMX, and like any BMX rider there is no better feeling than getting some new bike parts, yet alone a whole new bike. I build my bikes up myself, with all the components I choose, so getting a completely new bike is a thrilling event for me. This was all sparked by two other seemingly non-important events leading up to it. I finished assembling my new bike about two years ago. Now let us go back in time about two years and one week.

I awoke early Sunday morning. The sun was still rising, and the stage was set for a beautiful day. This was very fitting because the next day was the beginning of school, a time which I had come to enjoy. I threw on some clothes and picked up my bike. At about 12PM, I met some friends at the local McDonalds, where we always would meet, yet, never bothered to eat.

Later that day, we went street riding. For those who aren’t familiar with the topic, it is where you ride BMX on everyday obstacle that you encounter throughout the town. Anyway, we went and hit up all the local spots. We were having a blast, and started heading home. Of course we were all 16 years old or younger, and none of us had our driver’s license, so we had to ride our bikes home.

We all split up, and I was riding home by myself like usual. I looked over my left shoulder, and started to cross the road. About halfway across, I heard the roar of an engine. Startled, I turned to see a Jeep Cherokee speeding towards me on the wrong side of the road. Nervous, but not scared, I expected to hear the screech of brakes or squealing tires, but I heard neither. The Jeep plowed into my left hip, throwing me over my handlebars headfirst. A car following the Jeep later told me I did a flip, and landed right on my head.

I awoke in an ambulance just out side of the hospital. I was hurt, but not badly. After undergoing hours of x-rays, doctors couldn’t find any broken bones. All I needed was a few stitches here and there, but I still suffered a major concussion. I would miss the first day of school, but it didn’t bother me any.

Later that day, my dad contacted the insurance agent. We gave them all the information regarding the accident and the bike. Despite some financial worries, I was mainly happy that I was alright. I had been so lucky not to have been more seriously hurt.

The phone rang and I answered it. A familiar voice was on the other end, but I couldn’t figure out who it was. He introduced himself as my insurance agent, and said he could help me. The police had taken my bike after the accident, and had determined the value of it to be $1400, $200 more than I actually paid. I was to receive that amount back, as it was covered by my insurance.

A few days later, I received a check in the mail. The money was mine to spend, as long as I sent in my receipts showing that I spent the money on a new bike. In fact I did spend the money, all of it. It just goes to show you how you can go from an all time low to the highest of highs. It didn't matter that I had been fined $50 for not signaling a turn on my bike, maybe because no one does that anyway.

Wow, do I ever feel like a good student right now. So, this is my blog for Friday. It is currently 1:40 AM. Friday isn't even 2 hours old and my blog is already gettingn finished. Sometimes I impress myself. Anyway, I'm still up because I've been doing work for some of my other classes for tomorrow as well. I'll probably be up until around 4 this morning finishing up my work for tomorrow. I'm a night person. I tend to be much more productive at night. Anyway, I'm going to go finish up some work. Talk to you next week.

Thurs, Sept 8, 2005

Today was such a relaxed day it wasn't even funny. I had class from 9 to 11. After that, I came home and chilled out for a little. Then I got kind of bored and decided to do something relaxing. I always see people around, just chilling in the grass. I figured that that might be pretty fun. So I went over in front of Old Main and slept under a tree for an hour. It was even more relaxing than I had imagined. I highly suggest it. Anyway, then I went and talked to my brother at his dorm. Afterwards, I went and bought an Ipod. I've wanted an Ipod for so long and never had the money to spare. Especially when paying for college. But anyway, I talked my parent's into getting me one as an early Christmas present. It's sweet. Talk to you guys tomorrow.

Wed, Sept 7, 2005

Okay, so, here's the deal. Regarding wireless internet in the hub. I know that I had some trouble figuring out how to use it and I'm guessing that some of you guys do too. Okay, so first of all... You have to go to the PSU website, and search VPN Client. Download it onto your computer. This program will give you a list of PSU campuses. When you go to the HUB (or somewhere else that offers wireless internet) check for a wireless connection. It should come up in the bottom right of the screen. Then open VPN client and select the UP campus. Then go to the wireless internet box and click connect. Hope this helps. Post questions if you have any.

Tues, Sept 6, 2005

First of all, I'd like to begin today's blog by saying that my RA is a hero. I'm sorry, but I can't elaborate. Talk to me if you're interested and up for a funny story. Anyway, yesterday I solved my problem about getting wireless internet in the HUB. I've actually been doing a lot of work there lately. The HUB is a great place to get some peace and quiet. You'll all have to forgive me because I have a lot of random thoughts for todays blog entry.

So, the other day, I went to the pool near East dorms to go off the platform. It was really fun. Me and two of my friends went up there to flip off the platforms. They are so much higher than they look from the ground. I woke up kind of stiff today and I think it might have been from that. Or else, it could have been from climbing the stairs to the platforms. Anyway, college has been sweet so far (minus all the walking...).

I have wireless internet on my laptop and I have no idea how to use it. Is it simple? ~StarBurst

Narrative:
Mon, Sept 5, 2005

Anxiousness filled me as I finished packing my things for college. It was the day before I would move into a new place, and I didn’t want to leave anything behind. I drew checkmarks on my list as I loaded my final belongings into boxes. I reached the bottom of my list. Air soft Gun, it read, followed by a question mark. I was unsure whether or not I should go purchase the toy gun. It seemed like something that would be fun to do in my free time; however, I realized that it could get me into trouble as well. After asking my brother what he thought, I decided that it wouldn’t be a wise decision. Without purchasing it, I crossed the final item off my list.

I began unloading the boxes from the truck after arriving at school early the next day. I was nearly finished unpacking when my roommate arrived later that morning. We both got settled in and sent our parents on their way. As we sat alone in our new home, Ryan and I began to talk about things. Within about five minutes, we were both drooling over the air soft gun that he had brought with him to Penn State. We began shooting the plastic bullets into our pillows and all over our room. The floor was soon covered in plastic ammunition. By the next day, we had targets set up in our room to shoot.

It was early in the afternoon on our third day in the dorm that was our new home. Ryan was at his computer and I was bored. I got up out of my chair and went over to Ryan’s closet. I opened up the outside door and then the sock drawer where I found the pistol. With intentions set on shooting a left-over cardboard box, I set the pistol on my desk and began to load the clip. As I sat at my desk, I heard a voice behind me, “Um, Excuse me.” I turned around. It was the RA on duty. He continued, “I’m Dan, the RA on the ninth floor. Could I please see your Penn State ID card?” I complied, handing him the ID and apologizing for the situation. The gun was confiscated and I was told to make an appointment the next day for a meeting. As instructed, I called Kristen from Residence Life the next day. I set up an appointment to meet with her the next day.

I walked into the office a few minutes before my appointment and was frustrated with myself and with the system. How could it be that thousands of teenagers get away with underage drinking every night and I get busted for a toy gun? How could this be considered a ‘weapon’ when someone could do more damage with a pair of scissors, or a pen?

Despite my objections, I kept them to myself. Kristin informed me that I was being charged under the Firearms code of a PSU form that I had signed, but never read. A letter would go into my Penn State record regarding the incident. I complied and signed the paper. My copy is hanging on the wall of my dorm.

Mon, Sept 5, 2005

It's been an interesting weekend so far. Weekends in college seem very different from those in high school. At PSU, every day seems so much longer than usual. This is actually really convenient because it makes a three day weekend seem much longer than it actually is. There is plenty of time for having fun and finishing schoolwork. I went to the HUB today to work on some schoolwork, and i had trouble because I wasn't able to access the internet. So if anyone has connected to the wireless in the HUB, I'd definitely be interested in finding out how to do it...

Friday, Sept 2, 2005

I just created my account and checked out most of the features of this site. I think I have it pretty much figured out. We'll see about the coding at the end though. Anyway, I guess I'll introduce myself. My name is Kyle Wagner and I'm from Hershey, PA. Yes, it's where they make the chocolate. I'm majoring in Architectural Engineering. I ski all the time and enjoy it very much. Last winter, I went skiing about 50 times during the season. That's not too bad for Pennsylvania skiing. I built my own snowmaker so that I can make snow in my yard when there isn't any snow anywhere else. It's similar to the ones at ski resorts, only smaller. During the winter, this allows me to go skiing in my yard whenever I'm not at the resort.

I guess were supposed to write about reasons we chose our license as well. I chose to allow people to use my work whenever they want, providing that they give me credit for the work. This means that any work that I do can not be sold without my consent. No one can profit off my work. Also, this choice means that people must give me credit when citing my work elsewhere. If I write something that is worthy of being cited or used somewhere else, I believe that I deserve credit for it.

Let's see how this coding works.

Nice narrative. I like the ironic ending. -MenosElOso
